Lady Mary's Walk (2.7 miles)
Start in Taylor Park which is northwest of the town centre. Make your way along Turretbank Road and turn left immediately after crossing Barvick Burn. You are now on Lady Mary's walk which sweeps down to the confluence of the burn with the River Earn. The path is lined with trees and makes for a very pleasant wander.
Continue alongside the Earn with the old Crieff to Lochearnhead railway trackbed on your right. The path eventually climbs over the dismantled line and you pass the derelict house shown above. Double back towards Crieff along the farm road which becomes Laggan Road and leads you back to the park where you began.
An optional extension is to keep heading upstream at the ruined building and follow this route until you reach a minor road after about a mile. At this point there is a signed path up the small hill Tom a' Chaisteal. The way is hindered by a few fallen trees but they aren't too difficult to negotiate as we wind our way to the top where the curious David Baird Monument stands. A local man, Baird was a colourful military commander and some of his deeds are etched on the stonework. The obelisk dates from 1832 and shows its age but remains an impressive sight close up.
Retrace your steps to the point we deviated from the main walk. A disused railway tunnel can be found in a cutting just off the path at the bottom of Tom a' Chaisteal. It is 100 yards long and fenced off.
PUB STOPS - The Quaich Bar on Crieff High Street serves a couple of ales and local Perthshire brews are often featured. A range of artisan pies are also available.
