Puck's Glen (1.5 miles)

Puck's Glen lies on the Cowal Peninsula, five miles up the road from Dunoon. Remember that it may be a better option to take the vehicle ferry from Gourock than try to reach Dunoon exclusively by road. The entrance is a signed Forestry Commission car park  just off the A815 and ample space is available. Follow the red marker posts towards the gorge. A guide to the Argyll Forest Park trails can be downloaded here.

The route up the glen is sturdily constructed and footbridges take you back and forth over the cascading burn a few times. There are many waterfalls and the steep sides of the ravine are covered in mosses and lichens. Proceed to the Upper Glen and eventually the path begins to level out. We reach a junction where other loops can be added on to the walk. Otherwise continue on the Glen trail to wind your way back to the starting point.

A mile distant from Puck's Glen is the Benmore Botanical Garden. Noted for its fine collection of rhododendrons and a Victorian fernery, the garden also features a viewpoint at 450 feet. A map of the garden can be downloaded here.
