Maryhill to Kirkintilloch (7.5 miles)

Start at Maryhill station and walk down the main road to the canal lock complex. Head towards Stockingfield Junction and this time we bear left to leave the city of Glasgow behind. After a mile and a half we pass Possil Marsh Nature Reserve and a wooden walkway leads to a viewpoint. The towpath eventually brings us to the town of Kirkintilloch in Dubartonshire. The canal runs right under the High Street and there are plenty eating and drinking options.

There are regular bus services back to Glasgow and the journey time is less than half an hour. Alternatively, walk a mile and a half to the neighbouring town of Lenzie and catch a train on the main line.

PUB STOPS - The Stables is located directly by the towpath not far from Kirkintilloch. A full menu and real ales are available. In the town itself, the Kirky Puffer offers the usual Wetherspoons experience.
