Limekilns to Rosyth (4 miles)
One good thing about long distance walking trails in Central Scotland is that it's usually possible to create stages which allow you to take a bus or train back to the starting point. However, missing links do occur and returning on public transport for this section would involve a time-consuming dog-leg via Dunfermline. So this walk is suggested as a return trek on foot. You could of course bolt this stage on to the previous one.
Pick up the coastal trail in Limekilns and stick to the water's edge. After leaving the village, we pass Brucehaven Harbour and a pleasant quiet path brings us to the ruined Rosyth Old Parish Church, with an attached graveyard. We continue to hug the shore until the path steadily climbs inland as we approach the boundary of the Naval Dockyard. The elevation affords an excellent view of the new Queensferry Crossing. We then turn sharply towards the A985 and follow the pavement towards the edge of Rosyth town. Look out for a signed footpath on your right about 200 yards from the roundabout. This will be our starting point for the next stage. For now, we turn round and head back to Limekilns.
The Ship Inn and the Bruce Arms offer excellent refreshment as described in the previous report.
