Kirkintilloch to Kilsyth (5 miles)

The canal can be accessed from the centre of Kirkintilloch and we soon cross the Luggie Aqueduct which is a category-A listed structure. It is unique in the sense that it carries the canal over a railway (now dismantled) and a river. Thereafter we pass through quiet countryside with the Campsie Fells towering in the distance.

This stage ends at Auchinstarry Marina, around a mile to the south of Kilsyth town centre. Regular buses run between Kilsyth and Kirkintilloch or you could simply walk the five miles back. There are signposted walks from the marina which explore the remains of the Antonine Wall around Croy Hill. Pop into the Kirky Puffer on return to the starting point for a well-earned pint.
