Helensburgh Hike (5.5 miles)

A pleasant train journey along the shores of the Clyde brings us to the terminal Helensburgh Central Station. Proceed up Sinclair Street (A818) and keep going. We pass Helensburgh Upper Station whose line leads to Fort William and Oban. Take a left on to Kennedy Drive, following a brown sign for The Hill House - a National Trust property. We then turn right at Upper Colquhoun Street and arrive at the attraction. Pay a visit if you wish. Otherwise walk through the car park and look for a path signed Rhu Marina.

The track passes through woodland and over open ground. After crossing the Glennan Burn, the route heads uphill to joinThe Highlandman's Road which is an ancient toll passage. Bear left and keep following this road and the signs for Rhu Marina. Eventually we reach the outskirts of Rhu village and cross the West Highland railway once more. Head down Station Road (station now closed) and branch on to Pier Road which takes you back down to the Clyde. We simply follow the shoreline back to Helensburgh.
