Glen Clova (3.5 miles)

Official trail leaflet here

The five Angus Glens are now officially part of the Cairngorms National Park. The starting point for this walk is the Glen Clova Hotel. A public car park is close by and public toilets are available here. Pass through the hotel car park and past the bunkhouse, following the well-made footpath signed for Glen Esk.

This trail involves a height gain of around 1300 feet and the initial going is quite steep. However, the distance involved isn't great so do take your time if required. Soon we experience lovely views back down the glen. The path is clearly defined all the way to Loch Brandy which is nestled in a deep corrie.

The top of the corrie is known as The Snub and a path leads to the summit but this should only be undertaken by experienced walkers. Retrace your steps back to the hotel, which offers a range of snacks and main courses.
