Monifieth to Broughty Ferry (2.6 miles)
This walk is easy to navigate as it simply follows the shore between these two pretty towns. From the centre of Monifieth, head down Union Street past the railway station and skirt the caravan park to reach the waterfront. Turn right and take the obvious path. The Firth of Tay spreads out in front of you and a variety of sea birds can be spotted. Dolphins are also known to frequent these waters!
There is ample opportunity to get down on the beach. Broughty Castle can be seen in the distance and entry is free. Eventually the coast path gives way to street talking as we approach this bustling town. Although both Broughty Ferry and Monifieth have rail stations, few services stop at both. Therefore a bus is the best option to make your way back to the start if you don't fancy the walk in reverse.
Broughty Ferry offers many eating and drinking possibilities. For ale lovers, the Fisherman's Tavern is an essential stop, just 500 yards along the coast from the castle. A long standing entry in the Good Beer Guide, it offers a wide selection of constantly changing ales.
