Cramond Island (2 miles)

Start at Cramond village which lies at the mouth of the River Almond as it enters the Forth. This area can be busy during summer weekends and parking some distance from the shore may be the only option. The island lies just short of a mile out to sea and it is essential to check the tide times before setting out as it is quite possible to get trapped if you don't plan your journey properly.

The causeway is easily identifiable with its wall of concrete wartime defences. Simply walk out to the island and climb up to the high point. There are excellent views of Edinburgh and Leith as well as the other islands in the firth. Return to the mainland before the tide starts coming in.
