Broxburn to Ratho (9 miles)

Join the towpath from the main road through Broxburn town centre. We are still on the Shale Trail and QR codes are available to scan on an information post which supply more information about this now vanished industry and its effects on the local area. We pass under the M8 and railway line in quick succession before the walk takes on a more rural feel. Greendykes Bing continues to peer above the fields.

The relatively short Lin's Mill aqueduct provides an amazing view into the gully deep below where the Water of Leith flows. As we approach Ratho, look out for the walled garden on your left. This walk terminates at the Ratho Bridge Inn which is an excellent place to stop for refreshments before making the return trek. Using public transport requires a local bus up to Ratho Station, just over a mile distant, then change for a Broxburn connection (both with First Bus at the time of writing). The latter service is frequent, the former more sporadic.
