Doune Heritage (5 miles)
From the mercat cross in the town centre, head along Balkerach Street then take a right up Station Wynd, passing the former station master's house. Cross into Doune Ponds Nature Reserve, noting the curious Tryst Stone at the entrance. There is a bird hide overlooking the largest pond and a network of paths to explore on the old quarry site. Back in the town centre, walk up Moray Street to join the railway path which extends a mile and a half eastwards. The line ran to Oban via Callander and closed in 1965.
The only real option is a linear walk along the tarmac path. On the way back, cut through Moray Park to reach Main Street before wandering down to the castle (where yours truly got married). Take the left fork on the access road in order to check out the old mill. A bridge over the burn brings you back to the castle lawn. The River Teith can be reached by taking the path winding round the right wing of the building.
