Carnock Moor (1.7 miles)

Carnock Moor can be accessed from the B913 at the hamlet of Cowstrandburn. There is parking space for a few cars at the Forestry Commission gate. Walk along the stony access road and take the path to the right as you reach the fringes of the wood. This takes you around the edge of the plantation and height is steadily gained, allowing you to look down upon the village of the same name.

A tall wind turbine atop a mound is obvious to spot on your right. Around this point the going gets rougher and a sharp turn into the wood's interior is required. Look for a path up the steep slope and descend on the other side. Fine views of Knock Hill appear and you should head towards the field boundary and turn left. We emerge at the end of the access road and this can be followed back to the starting point.
