Strathpeffer town & loch (3.5 miles)
Begin at the restored Victorian railway station that houses the Highland Museum of Childhood, a café and craft shops. After a full exploration, wander back to the main road, turn right then almost immediately left along the signed Eagle Stone path. This leads to a Pictish monument and brings you back out close to the town centre.
Pick up the main drag and inspect the Highland Hotel, historic pump room and the Strathpeffer Pavilion. Walk out to the edge of town and turn right at a single-track road signed for Loch Kinellan. The route forks after 550 yards and you should bear left towards the parking area. Join the obvious path and see what birds you can spot on the water. The walkway strays from the shore at the opposite end. You can complete the circuit but simply turning round will save half a mile.
