The quiet single-track road leading to Crombie Point is signposted from the A985. Park in the nearby village of Crombie and hit the tarmac. Come off this road after 950 yards, taking the stony track which is part of the Fife Coastal Path. We reach a ruined church with attached graveyard. Tombs dating from the 1700s can be found. The footpath continues steeply downhill and brings you to the shore.
Turn left and follow the flat route along the coast. Several grand houses are encountered, including the "Witches Tower" - a 17th century B-listed property. The road turns sharply uphill at Crombie Point House but first take a look at the old pier. Constructed circa 1750, it is now ruined but the outline is discernible. Fabled writer Jules Verne once landed here on a trip to Scotland. Head uphill past a row of charming houses and simply follow the road back to the point where you branched off.
