Lochore to Glenrothes (9 miles)
The entrance to Lochore Meadows Country Park is situated in Crosshill on the B920. Walk down Park Street on the other side of the main road and keep an eye out for a signed path leading up a small grassy embankment on your right. This junction is easy to miss but the route is straightforward from here. The familiar Pilgrim Way markers guide you through a patchwork of local paths and there are nice views of the surrounding hills and the man-made loch at the former Westfield gas plant. We emerge on the outskirts of Cardenden and must take the pavement towards Kinglassie.
We finally turn away from the road after passing the Miners Welfare building. The path leads up towards the ridge overlooking the village. It's worth taking the signed detour along to Finglassin's Well where a bench provides a peaceful spot for a rest. You can refill your bottle with the crystal clear water. Back on the Pilgrim Way, we follow the ridge past a farm to meet a minor road. Microlight planes bound for the nearby Fife Airport pass overhead. After a short distance on the tarmac, we branch on to a quiet footpath that brings us to the River Leven. We switch banks as the town of Leslie is approached. Before the pub on Prinlaws Road, look for a path leading down to Valley Drive. Turn into Valley Gardens and follow the cycleway across the impressive curving viaduct. Turn left at the other end and stay on the river trail all the way to the Town Park in Glenrothes. Don't cross the river again, instead cut across the grass towards the elaborate staircase and make your way towards the bus station and shopping centre.
