This walk begins at the car park for Kirkcaldy Golf Club. Visitors are welcome to leave their vehicles here. Proceed on to the gravel path adjacent to the car-park entrance. Elevation is steadily gained and views open up of the surrounding rolling pasture land. The golf course is an oasis of green. When the track bends sharply to the right, maintain a straight line towards a row of newly converted stables. This footpath takes you past a large secluded house and then the ruins of Balwearie Castle.
Follow the core path markers as we bear left to skirt a field then make our way down the trackbed of an old freight railway. We are now on a high embankment and a couple of shallow cuttings are encountered. The line edges towards the B925 where it previously passed below. Instead we remain on the same side and the path parallels the road towards Auchtertool. The trail eventually joins the tarmac and we must take the pavement for the remaining leg into the village. Return by the reverse route.
