Anstruther to Crail (4 miles)

Leaving Anstruther we pass immediately through the adjoining village of Cellardyke. The Haven Bar & Restaurant serves real ale. We stroll by yet another harbour before the path enters open countryside. Look out for the large pig farm on your left. This sections contours the coastline and becomes increasingly rocky and rugged, although the going isn't difficult, save a few undulations.

We encounter the mysterious Caiplie Caves and eventually Crail comes into view. A final uphill hike to street level is required. The town's harbour is arguably the most romantic in the whole of Fife and it would be silly not to wander down for a look. Pop into the Harbour Gallery and Tearoom. Back on the High Street, the Golf Hotel has ales on offer. The nearby Crail Museum is small but well worth a visit. Learn about Crail Airfield's role during the world wars and the secret Russian language school that existed in the town during the Cold War years. The museum is open from April to October. Bus 95 takes you back to Anstruther.
