Kirkcaldy to Dysart (4 miles)
Back at Kirkcaldy Harbour, we head uphill alongside the A921. As the road levels out, a long flight of steps to the right takes us down to the water and a there is a nice view of Ravenscraig Castle sitting high above. A low-tide route exists along the shore but if this is impassable it's back up the stairs and along to Ravenscraig Park, looking out for the waymarkers to keep you on course. A prominent landmark along the way is the remains of the winding gear for Frances Colliery which closed in 1987.
We pass through a rock tunnel to emerge at Dysart Harbour. Stroll around the quayside and visit the Harbourmaster's House which offers food and drink and displays local artwork. The building is the headquarters of the Fife Coastal Path and souvenirs are available. Dysart Harbour is one of many locations used for filming the Outlander TV series which is popular across the globe. Outlander tourism is now big business across Scotland. The town itself was a Royal Burgh until 1930 before legally becoming part of Kirkcaldy. No doubt the locals disagree. Frequent buses return you to the Lang Toun.
