Drumchapel Way (5.7 miles)

Take a train from Queen Street out to Drumchapel on the very edge of the city. The sprawling estate was built in the post-war decades and is surrounded by woodland and fields. From the railway station, walk up Garscadden Road towards the shopping centre. The Drumchapel Way begins beside the health centre, directly opposite Greggs Bakery. An information board shows a map of the route. The path is fully waymarked in theory but some damage has been done to the signage in the urban sections.

Pass between the tower blocks and the Donald Dewar Sports Centre. The route then dips down into a grassy valley but it might be easier to follow the parallel Southdeen Avenue. We cross Kinfauns Drive and pick up a woodland trail. The path gains height and presents a view across the scheme to the hills beyond. Follow the marker posts around the semi-circular route and descend to street level. Head towards the enormous and futuristic looking water tank to hook up with a grassy way that offers a pleasant rural outlook. Eventually we return to the residential area at a roundabout. Cross over and take the footpath past the allotments and on to Halgreen Avenue. Walk through the public park to return to the shopping centre.
