Glasgow to Clydebank (8 miles)
From Glasgow city centre, make your way down to the River Clyde and turn left downstream. The path passes below a few bridges then fine views open out along the water. Walk around the industrial landmark of the retired Finnieston Crane and marvel at the massive Hydro Arena. Several iconic buildings stand on the other bank, such as the BBC headquarters, Science Centre and Imax Cinema. The famous Waverley paddle steamer is docked here and can be viewed at close quarters by nipping over the footbridge.
The walkway continues to the Riverside Museum of Transport. Here we must join the pavement to cross over the River Kelvin which empties into the Clyde. Continue alongside the main road, past an Arnold Clark car dealership and beyond Ferryden Street. Change sides to join the old Lanarkshire & Dunbartonshire Railway, now a walking and cycling route. The tarmac path proceeds along an elevated section and we pass through the remains of Scotstoun East Station. Stay on the obvious trackbed all the way to Yoker, where we dip below a couple of substantial steel bridges before switching seamlessly to another dismantled line. This brings to the edge of Clydebank. When the path runs out, turn right on to South Elgin Street then take a left at the traffic lights to follow the main road into the town centre. A large shopping centre offers several refreshment options and the railway station is close by. Frequent trains run back to Glasgow Central.
