From the bus station, work your way around (or straight through) the Kingdom Shopping Centre. Pick up the footpath at the North Street car parks signed for Riverside Park. Pass behind Lidl supermarket and descend the staircases leading into the vast expanse of green. Make your way towards the River Leven and walk upstream. The route passes below a couple of road bridges and also forms part of the Fife Pilgrim Way.
Look out for the sadly abandoned Leslie House on the opposite bank. The building - one of the finest Restoration era properties in Scotland - was severely damaged by fire in 2009. The river path begins to climb and ends at the spectacular Leslie Viaduct. My great great grandfather helped construct this glorious piece of railway architecture. The curved 14-arch span is now a cycleway and walking out to the middle gives a fine view of the valley and the old paper mill chimney. Several of my ancestors worked here. You can either return to base downstream or take South Parks Road (adjacent to the viaduct) all the way back to the bus station.
