The Stirlingshire village of Drymen is a popular stopover for walkers as the West Highland Way runs close by and the 79-mile Rob Roy Way begins here. This local circuit provides sufficient height gain to catch a glimpse of nearby Loch Lomond. From the village centre, proceed along Stirling Road past the post office and Drymen Inn. When the road curves to join the A811, maintain a straight course towards the Old School bed & breakfast. As the tarmac runs out, a hedge-lined path leads off to parallel the main road. This returns to the pavement for a short stretch before you turn left up a signed path. You are now on the famous West Highland Way!
The footpath continues uphill and you can take in the view of the rolling green valley. Turn left when you meet a forest road and continue to a junction with a single-track tarred road. The West Highland Way continues into Garadhban Forest on the other side but we head downhill back towards the village. There is no pavement but the road is quiet, carrying mainly traffic to the forest car park. It also forms part of the Rob Roy Way. Continue to Drymen where there are several places to eat and drink.
