Aberdour to Kinghorn (6.5 miles)

From Aberdour High Street, head down Shore Road to the lovely harbour. We then gain height as we negotiate the headland which separates the town shoreline from Silver Sands. This award-winning beach throngs with visitors on hot summer days and there is a restaurant. As we push on towards Burntisland we are sandwiched between the water and the railway. Great views can be had of the islands in the Firth of Forth.

Midway between the two towns, we pass under the railway via a narrow tunnel and continue along the landward side of the tracks. Upon reaching Burntisland, we work down to the High Street, passing close to the railway station should you wish to finish the walk here. There are several eating places here and it's worth popping into the second-hand bookshop on Kirkgate (Hanselled Books). Not too many of these places left.

Continue towards the links - always buzzing on a warm day - and skirt a bit of beach before the path reverts to the main road for the final hike to Kinghorn. You will pass the Sands Hotel which offers real ale in its public bar. Pavement pounding is a necessary evil at times but we soon reach our destination and the railway station is in the centre of town. The Crown Tavern (known locally as The Middle) is a long-standing Fife alehouse.
