Burleigh Castle Circuit (3.2 miles)
Start at Auld Mart Road just off the A922 at the edge of Milnathort. On-street parking is available here and the old railway station was located next to the business centre. Follow the residential street for a couple of hundred yards before taking the tarmac path on a grassy strip to your right. We are now traversing the route of the former Cowdenbeath to Perth railway alongside the golf course. You will see the ruins of Burleigh Castle across the fields on your left but taking the direct signed path would render this walk a short one! Instead, maintain a straight course until crossing the A911 at the mile mark.
Great views of Bishop and West Lomond Hills open up. After 400 yards, take the path on your left which doubles back towards the castle. Following a stroll along open terrain, we encounter a short stretch of woodland. Bear right upon exit otherwise you'll end up on the main road. An undulating path brings you to the castle remains. A few cottages stand across the road and we must walk a short distance away from Milnathort (houses on our right) in order to pick up a track that leads back to the railway path. It's then a simple case of retracing our steps to the starting point.
