Stanley Loop (1.5 miles)

Stanley lies six miles north of Perth and is close to the River Tay. From the village centre, follow the signs down to the historic mill where ample parking is available. The spectacular buildings have largely been converted to residential units but the complex also contains a public museum open from spring to autumn. Take a stroll down to the water's edge and gaze across the fast-flowing Tay. Hike up Mill Street and turn right on to the signed Shiel Hill path, just beyond the junction with King Street.

The very modest peak is easily climbed on the gravel footpath. The elevation is sufficient to provide a view across the rooftops to the Sidlaw Hills in the distance. Stay on the same path beyond the summit and turn left when you meet Linn Road. This brings you back to Mill Street. Continue downhill, back towards the old mill.
