Kelvingrove Loop (1.9 miles)

Kelvingrove Park lies a mile and a half east of the city centre. The River Kelvin flows through the green space en route to its meeting with the Clyde. The world-class Kelvingrove Museum & Art Gallery is situated within the confines. From the museum, pick up Argyle Street opposite the imposing Kelvin Hall and hang right to cross the river on a pedestrian walkway. Turning right on to the tarred path takes you past the curious Sunlight Cottages - architectural chocolate box style gems rather out of step with the bustling city surroundings.

Either drop down to the water's edge or continue along Sunlight Way. Assuming the latter, you will see a long flight of steps to your left at the junction with Kelvin Way. The staircase is signed Glasgow University and proceeding upwards will bring you to the Gilmorehill Campus. It's well worth exploring the Victorian complex and checking out the cloisters. The attached Hunterian Museum is open to the public and admission is free. Pass out of the campus along Engineering Way (paralleling the river course). Continue in a straight line along Bank Street as far as the junction with Great Western Road. Turn right for a short distance before descending to the Kelvin on the opposite bank. A network of paths leads back towards the museum. Don't miss the spectacular Stewart Memorial Fountain inside the park.
