Balgavies Loch Circuit (1.7 miles)

The Scottish Wildlife Trust runs this nature reserve a few miles outside Forfar. Two small car parks are located just off the A932. A bird hide looks out across the water from the western end. A path leads around the loch and the route is obvious.

The main Perth to Aberdeen railway ran along the northern shore until closure in 1967. You can now walk the trackbed and imagine steam express trains hurtling by. A bonus for those interested in old railway infrastructure is the site of Auldbar Road Station at the north-eastern corner. The platform is extant and the former station house still stands, through the archway of the road overbridge.
