RSPB Skinflats (1.5 miles)

Huge volumes of traffic pass over the Kincardine Bridge every day yet few people realise there is an RSPB reserve located on the mudflats just below. It's not well publicised due to the sensitive nature of the breeding activity and probably also in no small part due to the limited vehicular access. A single-track lane leads down to the reserve but it's less than a mile to walk from the car-park just off the first M876 exit when coming from the Fife direction (it is signed for local traffic).

Take the narrow tarmac road heading away from the car park (signed as a cycle-friendly route). Ignore the immediate junction for a farm and the next left-hand turn which is also for agricultural access. Third time lucky, take a left along a straight tree-lined single track. This leads all the way down to the reserve. An inner Forth "beacon" offers information about the Skinflats project
