Deil's Cauldron (2 miles)

Comrie lies on the A85 a few miles west of Crieff. The main drag has a couple of very sharp bends and next to one of them is a restaurant called The Deil's Cauldron. Branch on to Monument Road here and after a short distance a signed path leads to the right - signed for Deil's Cauldron waterfall. We pass through woodland and you have the option of detouring right to view Little Cauldron before re-joining the main route.

The path is securely fenced and a flight of steps leads down to the viewing area for the main waterfall. The swirling waters churn below. Retrace your steps back down the valley unless you wish to push a little further ahead to tackle the hike up Dun More Hill where the imposing Melville Monument stands. Although this is a relatively short climb, it's a steep one.

Cultybraggan Prisoner of War Camp lies approximately a mile and a half south of the town, just off the B827. It is the only surviving compound in Scotland and was classed as a "black camp" - meaning it housed the most fervent Nazis. The hut by the entrance contains an exhibition and you can stroll around the grounds. The camp was converted to a military training centre in post-war years and was used for this purpose until 2004. Thereafter the site was purchased by the local community and several local businesses are now based here. A sunken cold-war bunker lies at the far end.
