Strichen to Fraserburgh (10 miles)

The Formartine & Buchan Way runs through the middle of Strichen and is well signposted. We initially follow the North Ugie Water before swerving away towards a hill with a white horse carved into the slope. A great view can be obtained from the railway path. We traverse a delightful rolling landscape as we work our way towards the end of the trail. As ever, old railway infrastructure reminds us of the industrial past.

The final hike towards Fraserburgh brings a sighting of the North Sea. Before entering the town, it's worth climbing up the sand dunes for a panoramic view of the bay. You will find ample facilities in Fraserburgh and those with an interest in nautical matters would no doubt find the Scottish Lighthouse Museum fascinating. Indeed, the town features the first lighthouse built on the mainland. From the bus station you can travel in comfort back to Strichen or all the way back to Aberdeen.
