Take a tram down to Newhaven from the city centre. A single fare is £2 and payment can be made with cash or card at the automated machines. The terminus is around 400 yards from the harbour and it's worth walking along to look out across the Firth of Forth and sample some fish and chips.
The return trip is simply a case of following the tram tracks. You pass by the modern leisure complex at Ocean Terminal, where the decommissioned Royal Yacht Britannia is permanently docked as a visitor attraction. At Leith Shore halt, you can walk 200 yards along Bernard Street to view the historic quayside. Otherwise, continue up Leith Walk back towards the city centre.
