Gartmorn Dam Circuit (2.8 miles)
This walk takes you around Scotland's oldest reservoir which was constructed over 200 years ago in order to provide water power for local industry. It's a straightforward route around the loch and it's pretty flat all the way. Many species of ducks can be seen among the swans and they are all eager to be fed! The remains of Sheriffyards Colliery are passed and an information board gives an insight into the area's mining heritage. The path here follows the course of an old waggonway. Refreshments can be had in the cafe next to the car park.
The Mansfield Arms in Sauchie is an essential stop for ale lovers. From here it is a mile to Gartmorn Dam via a housing estate. Sauchie itself is approximately a mile from the centre of Alloa can be reached via the first part of the Devon Way. The Mansfield is an extremely rare example of a basic working man's boozer which still serves cask ale. A micro-brewery is located on the premises and three or four electric pumps dispense the beer at bargain prices.
