From Dunfermline Queen Margaret Station, proceed uphill towards Queen Margaret Fauld. Follow this residential street round the bend and branch off at the point where a farm track leads away. Keep a straight course, ignoring the junction with the Network Rail access road und continue to a stone bridge over an abandoned trackbed. Turn right and follow the gravel track all the way to the junction with the main road. Head uphill and take the next right. Cross the motorway flyover and pass through a gate before turning left on to an old concrete road.
We now gain height on a route formerly used by opencast lorries. It's a secluded stretch but the M90 is never far away. On your other side is the Hill of Beath. Cross back over the motorway at the next flyover and continue to the junction with a minor road. Turn left and follow the pavement into Kingseat village. Swivel left at the T-junction back towards Dunfermline. The main road veers sharply round to the right and excellent views can be enjoyed across the fields towards the River Forth. On the edge of the village, a new cycle path provides a safe walking route alongside the course of the B912. Take a left when we re-join the pavement and walk past the Queen Margaret Hospital back to the railway station.
