Dundee Green Circular 2 (7.5 miles)
Start at the junction of Laird Street and Strathmartine Road. Proceed down Harestane Road past Baldragon Academy. Upon reaching the intersection with Emmock Road, bear left along a path signed for Trottick Ponds. The Green Circular logo is prominently displayed along the entire route. The old mill ponds now form part of a peaceful nature reserve within the city and Trottick is a designated conservation area with an attractive architectural heritage. The path crosses the A90 on a footbridge and we enter Finlathen Park.
A curious structure is the Finlathen Aqueduct, built in the 1840s to convey drinking water to the growing city. It now functions as a public walkway. For the next couple of miles, the trail follows the course of the Dighty Water. We come to a road interchange and food is available at Sainsbury's and KFC. After crossing the busy A92, it's worth making the very short detour to have a look at Claypotts Castle, tucked away just yards from the traffic. We then follow an embankment alongside the main road before turning into a housing scheme. The final part of this Green Circular section takes us through a wooded den. The seven-arch Balmossie Viaduct is encountered. It carried a railway to Forfar until 1967. We pass below but you can climb to the top. Finally, we emerge on the A930 and frequent buses run to the city centre.
