Dunearn Hill (1 mile)
The starting point for this walk is the entrance to the fishery at Stenhouse Reservoir on the A909 near Burntisland. Unfortunately a few concrete blocks have been placed in the small lay-by and it is no longer suitable for parking purposes. Alternative spots are available a couple of hundred yards in either direction so keep your eyes peeled. Don't follow the road into the fishery. Hop over the low metal gate into a grassy field and follow the path towards another gate. After negotiating this obstacle, head almost immediately uphill into the trees on a vague path. Keep the boundary wall close by on the right and emerge into open hillside when you reach a gap.
The terrain doesn't always have an obvious path but we simply need to keep gaining height. As the trail flattens out, you will be in a valley with grassy rocky mounds on either side. The bump to the left actually looks the higher but the left peak has better views and an interesting artefact. First keep a straight course to check out Dunearn loch, a small body of water lying just a short distance ahead. Skirt the shore in an anti-clockwise direction and you come across an old cast-iron bath tub - complete with taps! A bizarre find. Pass through a doorway in the stone wall to your right and work back towards the summit. This time you stumble over the remains of a piano! It now lies in bits but you have to wonder who carted it up here. Enjoy the extensive views, by all means scale the other hump and then work your way back down.
