Inverkeithing to Aberdour (5.5 miles)

The section of coastal path between Inverkeithing and Kirkcaldy is paralleled by the East Coast Main Line, therefore it is easy to hop on a train back to your starting point. Starting from Inverkeithing High Street, follow the signs down towards the water. We pass an abandoned industrial pier and the deep Prestonhill quarry lies to the left.

The next town is Dalgety Bay, consisting mainly of new houses and a popular commuter base. One point of interest is the anchor sculpture marking the location of the now-infilled St David's Harbour. Coal was once brought here by the Fordell Railway and dispatched to destinations far and wide. Part of this line can be walked further inland. As we leave Dalgety Bay, we pass the ruins of St Bridget's Kirk.

The path cuts inland to bypass the oil terminal at Braefoot Bay and a pleasant stroll brings us into Aberdour. The High Street has eating and drinking facilities. The Foresters Arms is a previous winner of Fife CAMRA pub of the year. Several cask ales are kept in excellent condition. The railway station is located in the town centre and has also won numerous awards over the years for it's floral displays and community links. Aberdour Castle is a short walk from the station.
