Kennoway Den (4 miles)
Start at the large car-park on the A916 as it meets the A915 and A911 at a roundabout. Walk 150 yards on the pavement alongside the busy A915 then take the path to the left down a flight of steps. Suddenly the mood changes as you reach the trackbed of an old freight railway which winds through a pleasant wooded cutting. After approximately half a mile, a sign informs you that this mixed-use path continues to Methilhill. Instead, take the track to the left towards the main road. You are now standing at the edge of Kennoway town. Cross over and take the signed route into the den.
Follow the water upstream along the well-maintained path. The route is obvious, although you may want to cross over at the first slender stone bridge you encounter, before re-joining the original footpath. The ancient woodland abounds with wild garlic in the spring and there are several interesting rock formations. The Spa Bridge (pictured above) dates from 1704. Eventually the den tapers out at a care home on a minor road. Return by the reverse route, keeping any eye out for things you missed first time around.
