This short hill walk is easily accessible from Waverley Station in Edinburgh. Head up the escalators to Princes Street and turn right. Keep a straight course for Waterloo Place which is the starting point of the A1 trunk route to London. Although you will see a road on your left named Calton Hill, you want to take the flight of steps beyond. An information board shows the path network and gives details of the various monuments found on the hill. Ascend the staircase and work your way around the summit.
Calton Hill is just 338 feet above sea level but offers wonderful views of the city centre and across the Firth of Forth. There are excellent photo opportunities up here and the place attracts many tourists. You can descend by retracing your steps or take the path down the far side to explore Leith Walk.
