Three lochs forest drive (7 miles)
This self-drive route is accessed from the A821 north of Aberfoyle. It is open 9am to 4pm seven days a week from March to October. A payment of £3 per vehicle is requested at the beginning. There is nothing to prevent you from walking or cycling the route free of charge at any time of year. The road surface is decent and it's simply a case of following the one-way system. There are plenty of lay-bys en route where you can pull over to enjoy the scenery. Several short walking trails are also available within the boundaries.
More information can be found on this page and the route card is available here as a PDF. The first body of water is encountered near the start of the drive and is classed as a lochan. Then comes Loch Drunkie, followed by Loch Achray. Both lochs have a dedicated car-park with picnic tables and there are toilets at the former. You may spot an ice cream van in the summer. The exit is further up the A821 and you turn left for Aberfoyle.
