Wilsontown Ironworks (1.2 miles)
The tiny village of Wilsontown is situated near Forth in Lanarkshire. Park at the entrance to the woods and wander down the minor road to the ceremonial gates at a removed railway bridge. Beyond lies the (now cleared) site of the ironworks, an industrial marvel of its time. Various interpretation boards give an idea of the activity formerly present here.
An obvious circular trail can be followed. It's a pleasant walk, even for those not particularly interested in social history. The trail goes past the ruined village inn and gains some height to allow you to easily pick out the evidence of bell-pits scattered across the landscape.
