Brechin Heritage Walk (3.5 miles)
Begin at the heritage Caledonian Railway Station. Walk up Park Road and take a right on to Bog Road, passing over a bridge which affords a great view of the track layout and rolling stock. Turn left after crossing the line and follow the footpath alongside the railway for 230 yards. Look out for a pedestrian level crossing and pass through the gate to pick up the route of the old Brechin to Forfar railway on the other side.
The trackbed has been converted to a nature trail and loops around the perimeter of town. A couple of minor diversions are required when you encounter new housing estates. Keep following the blue signs. Eventually the railway path ends near the A90 and we head back to the centre of Brechin by proceeding down a street called The Banks. Turn left on to North Latch Road then right at the crossroads, picking up Airlie Street. Follow this road back to the main drag and cut down to the cathedral. Explore the historic site, where a curious 1200-year-old round tower stands. Work your way back to the station via Bishop's Close, before walking down High Street and turning left along City Road. Take Damacre Road on the right.
