Portmoak Moss Circuit (1 mile)
The Kinross-Shire village of Scotlandwell is situated close to Loch Leven. Portmoak Moss is owned by the Woodland Trust and is an expanse of raised bog - one of the few remaining in Central Scotland. A single track leads off the B920 at the edge of the housing and brings you to a small car park. Follow the obvious path - part of the wider Michael Bruce Way. Take the right fork. The clearing after a short distance is an excellent place to spot birds.
We leave the Michael Bruce Way at a junction where we keep left and begin to loop around the bog. After a wooded stretch, views open up across the Moss and Bishop Hill glowers in the background. Complete the circuit and return to the car park where you began. You may also want to tackle the rest of the Michael Bruce trail. Either way, seek out the titular well in the village and have a drink of its crystal clear waters. Ignore the council notice about fitness for human consumption not being guaranteed. I partook many times as a child and will soon hit 50 in fine shape!
