The counties of Fife and Kinross are separated by Benarty Hill. The 1186-feet summit offers excellent views to the north. This walk starts on the Fife side and limited parking is available in a small lay-by on the minor road that runs between Ballingry and the B996. A wooden staircase beside the green sign leads upwards. If the parking spaces are occupied, a larger facility lies closer to Ballingry and the path from here hooks up with the top of the aforementioned steps.
Simply climb the stairs, rapidly gaining height. Sightings of Loch Ore appear above the treetops. A patch of denser woodland follows the staircase and the path then almost doubles back on to more open terrain. We switch back and forth en route to the undulating plateau, passing a fine viewpoint. Once on top, head for the concrete trig point in the distance. Reaching this post unlocks an amazing vista to the north, with Loch Leven spreading out below. After refreshments, make your way back down by the reverse route.
