The Binns Estate is now owned by the National Trust and access to the house is by pre-booked guided tour during the warmer months. The grounds are open all year round (gates closed at 19.30) and incur no admission charge. Enter the estate from the A904 at a junction roughly halfway between South Queensferry and Bo'ness. The drive to the car park is half a mile and from here the house is a short distance away. An information point displays suggested walks and a potted history of the estate.
This easy excursion follows a signed path to the top of Binns Hill. You may well encounter peafowl on the way. The routes passes through an area of woodland before climbing gently to the summit where a tower stands. The altitude is a mere 364 feet but it's enough to offer a lovely view down upon Blackness Castle and across the Firth of Forth to Fife. A pleasant and accessible little hill walk.
