Cairneyhill Circuit (2.8 miles)
Start at Nicky's Garage in the centre of Cairneyhill. Here you can buy hot and cold snacks to sustain you during the walk. Cross the main road and proceed along Brandy Riggs. As the street bends sharply to the right, veer away to the left on South Acres. This swiftly brings you to a large expanse of grassy parkland. Head straight across to the other side and look for a small wooden bridge over the drainage ditch. Walk up towards the railway bridge but stop short of crossing. Instead turn left and skirt the field, paralleling the tracks. The farmer leaves the edges untouched and there is no problem taking this route, nor any fences to climb. Do two sides of the square until you emerge on to a track close to the farmhouse.
Follow this single track road with the housing scheme to your left. On the other side, gaps in the crumbling stone wall reveal the remains of an old orchard. Upon reaching the A994, turn right, and then take the second road to the left. You will see the rusting hulks of ancient cars as soon as you turn off the main road. you are now on the official Fife Pilgrim Way and marker posts guide you along the stony track. You can cut a corner by taking the informal path through the woods on your right. Wild flowers abound in here during spring. Rejoin the core path and dog-leg around a large house. We then arrive at a huge steel barn and here we take a right, following the farm track straight as a die down to the A994. Turn right and follow the pavement back to Cairneyhill.
