Hill of Tarvit (1 mile)
The Hill of Tarvit mansion is a beautiful Edwardian property in the care of the National Trust. The small peak (692 feet) can be accessed directly from the adjacent car park (£2 charge requested) but it's worth having a look around the landscaped grounds beforehand. An ornate metal gate in the gardens to the rear of the house leads to an uphill path through a patch of woodland. Climb the stile and traverse the grassy area towards the next clump of trees. Height is constantly gained and we basically keep heading upwards.

Once on the ridge, work towards the obvious summit that is marked by a large stone monument. Amazing views open up in all directions across the undulating landscape of northeast Fife. Make your way back down to the mansion where a tearoom provides refreshments. An excellent alternative is the cafe inside the Fife Folk Museum in the village of Ceres a mile and a half away.
