Glen Lednock (3.5 miles)

Comrie is a busy large village on the A85 with a good selection of shops and amenities. The main road has two sharp bends. At the westernmost turn, branch on to Monument Road past the Deil's Cauldron restaurant. After a short distance, take the signed woodland path between the stone gate pillars. Height is gained and there are wooden staircases that lead down to viewing platforms for the Deil's Cauldron waterfall and younger sibling Little Cauldron.

Eventually we meet a minor road. Keep going in the same direction. A signed route leads steeply up Dun More, offering the chance to view the Melville Monument. Note that the structure can be seen from a more sedate position on the other side of the glen. Leave the road after a few hundred yards as a path branches right at a green sign down to a wooden bridge over the River Lednock.

Once over the water, follow the trail on the opposite bank back towards Crombie. The path rises and falls and there are a couple of benches en route. The towering Melville Monument can be viewed from several points. As we enter woodland, the route forks. Keep right as this is the quickest way back to the village. A rather rickety flight of steps allows us to descend towards the river but it's worth nipping along to the viewpoint before climbing down. Comrie can clearly be picked out among the surrounding green. At water level, we simply head downstream. Keep an eye out for aquatic bird life. As the walk levels out, turn right across an old railway bridge and maintain a straight course back towards the main street.
