Lower Largo to Elie (7 miles)

Make your way along Lower Largo Main Street, passing the statue of Alexander Selkirk who was the real-life inspiration for the castaway tale Robinson Crusoe. As we leave the village, we join the old railway line for a while before diverging towards the water.

The path enters the dunes of the Dumbarnie Wildlife Reserve then skirts the caravan park which overlooks Shell Bay. We head round Kincraig Point and walk along the cliff edge. At a lower level is the infamous Elie Chain Walk, which is cut into the stone and should only really be attempted by experienced climbers.

Civilisation is reached at the small village of Earlsferry. A refreshment stop is possible here at the 19th Hole which offers a couple of cask ales. The pub is situated on Links Road which runs parallel to the High Street. Earlsferry merges into Elie where a good number of amenities are available. The Ship Inn is a well-known alehouse overlooking the beach. A couple of buses per hour will return you to Lower Largo.
