NQ to Dunfermline (8 miles)

The Fife Pilgrim Way has two starting points which converge upon Dunfermline Abbey and the trail is fully waymarked. The North Queensferry leg begins at the historic pier in the shadow of the famous Forth Bridge. Be sure to investigate the tiny lighthouse that once guided ships across the firth. The initial two and a half miles to Inverkeithing town centre are upon a shared route with the Fife Coastal Path. Look out for a left-hand turn up Hill Street which takes you across the M90 flyover. We then descend into Rosyth and more road walking follows along the A985.

The hamlet of Pattiesmuir provides a welcome break from the pavement pounding as we cross the trunk road and begin a pleasant rural stage. Douglas Bank Cemetery is skirted (featuring many war graves) and views of Dunfermline open up across the fields. A farm track brings us to the fairly quiet B9156 and Pittencrieff House (resplendent in orange) can be easily spotted, as can Dunfermline Abbey. The trail leads into Pittencrieff Park (or The Glen if you're local) and winds it's way round to the heritage quarter of Scotland's former royal capital.
