Cowie Coke Ovens (3 miles)

Start at the end of Ochilview in Cowie and take the farm track that runs uphill to the left. At a T-junction, turn right and continue between the fields. Good views of Stirling Castle and the Ochils can be enjoyed. The road drops down and you reach a confluence of routes. Bear left on to the path signed for Doll Farm.

You are now paralleling the route of a mineral railway that served Carnock Colliery and the associated coke plant. The tracks ran in the overgrown cutting to your left. Upon reaching the former manager's house, hang left and continue along the footpath through the woods. After a few hundred yards, keep your eyes peeled for old brick structures in the undergrowth to your left. A good selection of coke kilns can be viewed from the main path. If you're feeling more adventurous, you can wade into the dense woodland to search for more industrial relics. This walk can also simply be regarded as a nice country wander.
